The New Year is under way and our first term for 2016 begins in less than two weeks. If being more creative was part of your resolutions, now is the perfect time to sign up.
There are classes for adults and children of all ages taught by practicing and professional artist that cover theoretical, historical and design aspects of their subjects whilst introducing new skills in a fun and dynamic way.
This term our popular oil painting techniques teacher Shannon Smiley returns to teach Drawing Techniques for Adults. This course will introduce students to a variety of drawing materials, styles and techniques through practical work and a rigorous theoretical context. A perfect class if you have always wanted to draw but do not know where to begin or if you wish to take your drawing further.
As well as the term long drawing class we are offering two 4 week long workshops for Adults.
The first is an investigation into Creating Artist Books taught by Anna Taylor. During this four week course students will learn the technical skills required to create their own unique state books. Looking at Japanese book binding techniques, a variety of different covers and other artist books students will gain a solid knowledge in this art form and the skills to take it into their own practice,
The second half of the term we are running another four week workshop Investigating Abstraction with Tatjana Este. Students will learn the basic principles of how to develop their ideas from reality through to creating abstract pieces of art. By looking at historical and contemporary references, the course will cover mark making and types of line, shape repetition, negative space, tone colour theory different mediums, composition and scale and honing your perception. All coming together to help develop student’s own abstract language.
Our ever popular Friday morning Art Class for Pre school children will be returning withGiselle Laming. Each week a different theory of art, science, history or nature will be explored through creative play. Some highlights from last year include making pink bubble wrap shoes and using them as paint brushes on giant rolls of paper.
Cailan Burns will be on board for Tuesday afternoons after school to take any 9- 13 year olds on a discovery into the world of Comic Book making. Come and make your very own comics! This course covers the complexities of comic book character design, storyboarding and layout helping students create your own visual stories. Students will gain the skills and techniques to help them draw, design and bring to life a character and build a story around them.
Alysia Rees will be offering two Saturday Art Classes the first in the morning is for 5-8 year olds followed by an afternoon session for 9-12 year olds. Exploring a range of mediums from painting through to sculpture children will be lead on an artistic adventure. Covering techniques, methods, theoretical elements and flat out experimentation. They will develop skills in colour theory, technique, design, materiality, historical context and creative execution in an age appropriate, fun and exciting way. These classes are very popular and fill up quickly.
The scope of work produced during our first year last year was so impressive. We can not wait to see what will be created this year and hope to see you there.
