On a rare night out last Friday I happened to have ABC Radio National on in the car and intercepted the most fascinating story about how we underestimate plants . The interview with Susan Simard a professor of Ecology at the university of British Columbia explains her research project looking at trees as social entities that communicate via fungal filaments that interconnect their root systems.
Much like neurons in an animal brain. Information is passed back and forth and acted upon by the individuals. It was truly fascinating. I have added in a link if you wish to listen. Or a book The Hidden Life of Trees, by Peter Wohlleben can be found here.
