Overview: Over this term long course students will examine traditions of drawing and painting as they work towards exploring abstraction. Students will learn the basic principles of how to develop their ideas from reality through to creating abstract pieces of art.
By looking at historical and contemporary references, the course will cover the following aspects that will help develop student’s own abstract language:
- Mark making and type of lines
- Shape repetition
- Negative spaces
- Basic colour theory
- Different mediums
- Composition and scale
- Perception skills
This course is a wonderful way to block out two hours of art practice a week in a vibrant studio atmosphere.
Outcome: By working from still life set-ups as a starting point and covering the basics of drawing and painting, students will experiment and learn many different strategies to create a finished abstract body of work.

Skill level: Beginner to intermediate for Adults aged 15 +
Materials supplied: All basic materials supplied you may want to bring your own materials as the course progresses depending on the direction your work takes.
Cost: 2 hour class x eight weeks = 16 hours of tuition. Course cost $375.00
