Trina Gaskell has been making puppets for many years, working with local companies such as Handspan, Snuff Puppets and Polyglot Theatre. She has made all manner of puppets including tiny marionettes for A Quarrelling Pair by Aphids, the oversized baby for Terrapin Theatre’s Big Baby and a towering elephant for the 2015 annual Moomba parade.
Trina has worked with performers and communities to develop puppetry based performances. School students have been guided by Trina in constructing shadow puppets, rod puppets and large-scale wearable puppets as seen in the Here There Project at Coburg Primary School and Shadow Bus at Woady Yallock Primary School.
Following a collaborative exploration of sensory based art with blind students from Insight School, Trina designed Polyglot’s interactive installation Trailblazer at Federation Square for MIFA 2013. When she’s not making puppets you might find her making a tree house, or contemplating building a pond.
